Womens Ministry Committee
The Womens Ministry Committee is a new committee that began in the fall of 2004 with the specific focus of Women’s Ministry.
"The purpose of the Women’s Ministry Committee is to provide spiritual encouragement through fellowship, connectedness, and mutual support to the women of our congregation and community."
This mission statement forms the goal of each of our events, from the simple to the elaborate!
In 2007 the Women's Ministry Committee sponsored the following event(s):
In March, we presented Marion Ford, a Christian dramatist who came to Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church to present a play titled: "Free To Forgive".This true story based on the life of Corrie ten Boom, as told in her book "The Hiding Place" will take us back to the Second World War, when Corrie's family was taken to a concentration camp for hiding Jewish people.
We heard how God was present, even in the bad times, and how one survivor found the strength to go on, and to be "free to forgive". This timeless story will move all who hear it.
In 2005 the Women's Ministry Committee sponsored the following events:
In January we enjoyed breakfast with Jeanne MacKay, guest speaker, who shared her slides and experiences of being a missionary with Christian Aviation Canada, stationed in Africa. A small donation for the cost of breakfast yielded a $50 surplus. This was used to buy African groceries for a family from Botswana residing in Ronald McDonald House while their child undergoes cancer treatment. Harry and Cyril were our fabulous chefs and we thank them for volunteering their time and effort on our behalf!
An intergenerational 'Tea and Bee' was held on February 26th during which we enjoyed a tea party, Children at Worship devotional time and 3 service projects. We learned to knit dishcloths for the church kitchen, made inspirational Easter decorations to give to the seniors at the Extendicare Easter service lead by our church and began work on a quilt for a family in need.
On April 30th the Womens Ministry Committee hosted a Muffin Morning with 'virtual' guest speaker Patsy Clairmont from Women of Faith. None of those in attendance will look at rubber bands the same way after seeing Patsy's visual illustration of what she can feel like at times - a giant tangle of rubber bands! She reminded us of Elijah crying out 'It is enough, Lord' (1Kings19:4) and of God's faithfulness, knowing when it's too much for us, He is here and it's not too much for Him!
On June 3rd a Garden Party was held in honour of Siosi Palefau who shared a glimpse of the role of Tongan women. What a treat when her children danced traditional Tongan dances for us. Some of us were brave enough to join in!
We travelled to Marmora on Sept 16th for our "Travelling Light" Women's Retreat held on beautiful Crowe Lake. We worked together, there, to learn to lay our burdens at the foot of the cross. We found inspiration in the 23rd Psalm and Matt, 11:28. 'Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.'
We ended the year with our 2nd Annual Advent PotLuck Supper. What a wonderful way to prepare for the message of Christmas, 'Christ is here!' Donations totalling $150 were used to buy livestock for families in need in our world.
It has been a pleasure and honour serving on this new Women's Ministry Committee! The time has come to step down as Chairwoman as I prepare for moving to Prince Edward Island. It will be a privilege to pray for the Women's Ministry Committee and the women of this congregation in the years ahead as you go forward in the Love of Jesus Christ!
